Peaceful and calm.

They are the words that collectors of Debbie Mackenzie’s art invariably use to describe how it makes them feel.

“It’s a beautiful and rewarding part of what I do,” says the award-winning Mornington Peninsula-based artist, celebrated for her ‘big skies–slow living’ landscapes.

“The amazing thing is that painting, for me, is a meditative process. I get into a flow state where I lose all track of time, the painting takes me on a journey, and when the painting is finished, those feelings of calmness and tranquillity are transferred to whoever is looking at it.”

Debbie believes that part of the magic that stems from her canvasses is due to the absence of human presence.

“It’s very intentional. Any sign of humanity is very distant and subtle, such as a track or fence in the distance. I feel nature is the antidote to the frenetics of modern-day living. Also, the colour palette I use is nature’s colour palette so it’s very calming to look at and complements any interior space.”

As a gallery artist, with limited yearly collections, most of Debbie’s original work is quickly sold out. She does occasionally offer a very limited edition of hand-signed and numbered fine art prints.

“I am very particular and involved in the reproduction process, of which I only produce 30 prints on archival cotton using archival inks. The method I use means the colours and reproduction are optimum. Buying a fine art print is a good entry point for new art investors. Some of the people who have bought my art prints, have then come back, and purchased original pieces.”
